Services for MU students with disabilities

Study guidance

Provides organizational support for the studies of disabled students from enrolment to completion of studies:

  • organizing accessible enrolment into study,
  • organization of the course of study (devising an individual study plan, organizing individual tutoring or examination dates if needed),
  • help in contacting teachers and Office for Studies employees at the faculties.
Study guidance is provided by the employees of the Students’ Office, in Czech/English: in person, by email or online chat; in Czech Sign Language: in person, by video chat or videoconference.

Technical support

Providing suitable technology necessary for making accessible the tuition of students with disabilities:

  • special technology (hardware and software) for individual tutoring at the Teiresias Centre,
  • loaning technical equipment to the student him/herself, or his/her department of study; or to the employee who will perform the particular service outside of the Centre (speech-to-text reporters etc.),
  • consultation and methodical guidance in case of new or less common technical approaches.

Interpreting/speech-to-text service

This is a service primarily aimed at providing bilateral communication with the hearing impaired in their study activities at MU:

  • interpreting into/from Czech Sign Language,
  • mouthingservice,
  • speech-to-text reporting in Czech, or simultaneous distribution of the transcription to a wider audience (using the Polygraf technology).
Services are performed mainly by internal Czech Sign Language interpreters, or speech-to-text reporters, and only when arranged with the employees responsible. University library for students with special needs

  • mainly acquiring study materials in relevant formats (e-text, video version in sign language, tactile document printed in the Braille script, including tactile graphics, hybrid documents etc.),
  • other library services of the University library for students with special needs.

Personal assistance and spatial orientation training

  • personal assistant – primarily for students with mobility impairments, when needed also for students with other types of disability (accompaniment and assistance during sports activities for the visually impaired etc.),
  • spatial orientation training for the visually impaired – as needed, intensive training before the start of studies, and continuous training by means of regular tuition.
Services are provided by the employees of the Physical Disabilities Section (in case of students with mobility impairments) and by the Students’ Office (in case of other students).
