Czech Blind United

CBU is, in terms of the services provided, one of the most significant institutions in the area of visual impairment. Apart from numerous activities in the social sphere, in the area of elimination of architectural barriers, personal assistance services etc., the CBU has since 1993 been managing the Library of digital documents for visually impaired readers, with 13 000 titles and 1300 registered readers (on 5/20/2011).

The specialist staff at Digitalization and Technical Support Department of CBU or Tyflokabinet - National Adaptive Technology Centre will participate in the standardization of digitalization methods usable in preparing study materials for visually impaired persons: namely, in the process of format conversion in consideration of standardization of the eight-dot code for representation of mathematical texts on tactile displays; in the unification and standardization of libraries and library catalogues for the visually impaired - unified web catalogue interface of the libraries with accessible documents.
