Introduction

In the following list you can find textbooks for primary, secondary and grammar schools which are available in the library of the Teiresias Centre in the form of Braille prints or electronic documents, or the textbooks which are currently being adapted to create a document accessible to visually impaired people. It can be an inspiration to teachers in their choice of study materials and – if the syllabi and other circumstances allow – it enables them to choose the textbook so that the disabled student doesn't suffer from lack of study materials due to their unavailability or long preparation time. (You can also download the list in a form of PDF document.)

How to order the study materials

Ideally, the definite order of the study materials is submitted by the school representative after a previous consultation with the head of the Library and Publishing Section of the Teiresias Centre. As the main duty of the Teiresias Centre is to support the studies of students of Masaryk University, the Centre cannot fully guarantee the services to other educational organizations, even though we try to satisfy them as much as the situation of the Centre allows.

It takes several weeks to fulfil an order for already prepared Braille prints; however, to prepare a new title usually takes several months. Exact terms of delivery are available after you announce which particular title you are interested in and the Library and Publishing Section considers how demanding it will be to prepare the print as well as the current situation of the Centre.

In case of ready-made electronic documents we are able to handle the order almost instantly. According to the Copyright Act (121/2000 Coll. as amended) the copies are not delivered to the staff of the school but directly to the student. The student has to be a registered user of the University library for the students with special needs at the Teiresias Centre. The staff of the Library and the Publishing Centre administer the registration of the student; the school only provides the order for the study materials and the contact details of the particular student.

Conditions for the access to the electronic section of the University library for the students with special needs (information about the library here):

Payment for the study materials – basic principles

Provision of electronic copies that are available in the library database at the time of the request is free; a fee is charged for electronic copies prepared for the first time upon request of a school and for all Braille prints.

Fees are charged in accordance with the internal price list of the Centre, which is updated continually and which distinguishes ready-made prints (A) and prints or electronic documents to be prepared (B).

Ready-made Braille prints

These texts are prepared for print in Braille (including tactile graphics); however, they are not available immediately – they are printed only upon order. The prints are delivered in several weeks (3-4 on average) according to the length of the text, how demanding the completion is and the current situation of the technical department of the Centre.
