Information for accepted students (and their teachers)
1. Introduction
Upon finding out that you have been accepting please contact our Students' Office so that we can guide you through the next steps that need to be taken.
2. Accommodation
If you do not live in Brno, your first concern will be finding accommodation in Brno. If you are interested in living in a dormitory, please contact our Physical Disabilities Section immediately upon acceptance. We will work with you to try and find accommodation for you that will be in the best location possible, as well as accessible. Currently, the following options are available:
- Dormitory in Brno-Komárov
- barrier-free access – gently-inclined ramps – accessible by automobile
- two rooms are furnished and equipped for wheelchair users
- Internet connection is available in all rooms
- these dormitories are in an outlying part of the city easily accessible by barrier-free public transportation
- flat surroundings

- Vinařská Street Dormitories
- barrier-free access to building A2 including gated automobile access and parking
- barrier-free access to selected rooms via a ramp over five stairs,
- 3 rooms are modified for wheelchair users
- These dormitories directly neighbor the barrier-free Faculty of Economics and Administration. The curriculum of the faculty and job opportunities for graduates make it a suitable place for students with physical disabilities.
- The dormitories are located in a hilly area, the closest public transportation is approximately 500 meters either uphill or downhill, and there are no community facilities nearby.

- This dormitory is located in a flat area near the center of Brno with a shopping center in the immediate vicinity. It is accessible by public transportation.
- The nearby Moravian Library (approximately 300 m) and the Faculty of Informatics (approximately 800 m) are within walking distance over flat terrain.

3. Enrollment and photographing
- If you have been accepted to any of MU's faculties you must confirm your interest in studying here by enrolling; you will receive information about how to do this ahead of time by post. Upon enrollment you will receive basic information about your studies, passwords necessary to access the MU Information System and computer laboratories, etc.
- Upon enrollment you will also be photographed. This photograph will be included in the MU Information System for people to recognize you. You will also have this photograph on your International Student Identity Card (ISIC), which serves as your university ID throughout your entire course of study, entitles you to special discounts, allows you to enter university facilities, pay in dining halls and dormitories, etc.
- We recommend new students to take advantage of guide services available for enrollment and photographing, especially if the student is unfamiliar with the faculty or if photographing takes place in a different building than enrollment. For example the building on Komenský Square is barrier-free, yet access to the room where photographs are taken is quite complicated for wheelchair users. Thus, we can arrange for your photograph to be taken in a more suitable place or we can facilitate easier mobility in such buildings. If you would like to request guide services please contact our Physical Disabilities Section.
4. Semester enrollment and course registration
In your first semester of study you enroll in person, but in all following semesters you must express your interest to study further by electronic semester enrollment. Course registration takes place before the start of each semester. If you plan to complete your studies in the standard amount of time, you can use the registration template. If you think that due to health reasons you will not be able to complete your studies in the standard amount of time, your studies can be extended using an individualized plan of study. If you wish to do so, we recommend you consult your choice of courses with our Physical Disabilities Section. MU Student and Examination Regulations apply to all students, and in addition the Directive of the Rector for Students with Special Needs (in Czech) apply to students with physical disabilities.
5. Information system
At Masaryk University it is of critical importance to learn how to work with the electronic Information System. All administrative work at the university is done via this system. The basics of working with this system are presented at enrollment; a guide to getting started can be found directly in the information system. If you have any difficulties working with the Information System, please contact our Physical Disabilities Section.
6. Required core courses
Please discuss attending lessons that are not part of your course of study, but that are required to graduate with our Physical Disabilities Section. These are primarily physical education classes (if you do not request to be exempted), didactical and methodology courses, or possibly other courses requiring movement in the field, etc.
7. Adaption of lessons and special lessons
If you discover before, during or even after the semester that a teacher uses methods that are not suitable for students with physical disabilities (field work, requirements to move, to use delicate motor skills, or to use special technology) please let us know immediately. We will try to create special lessons for such courses consisting of individual lessons led by more advanced students, Ph.D. students, or other assistants, who will work individually with you and who will cover the material with you.
8. Examinations, credit tests, and colloquia
The university administration expects that you will complete every examination, colloquium and credit test in the generally normal, prescribed manner. If you contact us ahead of every examination in time we can ensure for you the same conditions you had during your entrance examinations (examinations in a barrier-free building, the use of modified hardware, software, or other aids, and an adequate amount of time). If you have an individual plan of study, it is possible to take examinations outside of examination period.
Arranging Accommodation, Food and Support Services
1. Personal assistance
During any study-related activity you have the right to a personal assistant, who will help you get to where you need to be and ensure the accessibility of all materials needed. Do not hesitate to contact us at anytime with such a request; Masaryk University will ensure this service for you via our Physical Disabilities Section.
If necessary, this assistant can be available for activities that are not directly related to your studies, or for activities that are connected to your studies. In such cases the university will share the costs with other subjects that provide personal assistance.
We are willing to offer you, to the best of our abilities, assistance services in situations that are not expressly related to Masaryk University (visits to the doctor, the post office, unfamiliar locations, shops, etc.).
2. Accommodation
The Teiresias Centre puts maximum effort into being able to offer students with special needs who are not from Brno barrier-free accommodation in double-occupancy dormitory rooms with permanent Internet connections. We kindly request that newly accepted students and their parents contact us about accommodation issues, and not the faculties or dormitories directly. Upon agreement we can always work together to come up with individualized solutions.
3. Dining
The Physical Disabilities Section will discuss dining options in Masaryk University's facilities with both new and older students.
