TEIRESIÁS:
Tandem bicycles for visually impaired students
The aim of the subject is to master the tandem bike riding. Essential part of this activity is mutual coordination of a seeing assistant who controls the bike (further referred as the pilot) and the visually impaired student. As soon as students familiarise themselves with the bike, they proceed to a training of communication with the pilot, which comprises a practice of
- starting the ride,
- controlling the bike,
- correct use of voice signalization and communication during the ride,
- ending the ride.
Students practise the acquired skills during shorter and longer rides. The routes gradually become longer and also the terrain becomes more difficult, according to the individual physical abilities of the students.
The subject is meant for visually impaired students as an alternative to the subjects focused on cycling which are provided by the Faculty of Sports Studies of Masaryk University. Classes are organized either once a week or they are divided into five blocks (half a day each); it is also possible to combine these two options.
